Irony
0/0 13.04.2007 20:38 English
So K, my future roommate, works for a recritment firm, and is now joining in the search for a professional job for me, and seems to think the there might be room for me to work with her as a recruiter. Because it makes sense that someone who can't find a job for herself ought to find jobs for other people.
Let's keep our fingers crossed!

Skills and Qualifications

One might think that I, someone who has written a 70-page Master's Essay and writes three twenty to thirty page essays each semester, would have no trouble finding jobs that involve writing or editing or research. Guess again!
The biggest problem I am running into in my grand job search is that I can't seem to communicate to the potential employers I'm sending my resume out to that I am actually qualified to do the jobs I'm applying for. There's never any appropriate place for me to mention that I have done all this insane school work that translates very well into being able to read and write and research and edit and communicate ideas clearly. There's not even a space to mention that I could TOTALLY be a receptionist because I can answer phones and schedule meetings.
And the search goes on . . .

Underemployed or Unemployed?
0/0 09.04.2007 18:21 English
Okay, so I've discovered that there are several things you can do with an MA in English. One of them is not get called back when you apply for a job. The other is to fold pants at a retail chain store.
So here I, Poppy, pose the age-old question: Is it better to be Unemployed or Underemployed?

Okay, so here I am. I have a Master's Degree and am on my way to getting a PhD. I have thousands and thousands of dollars in student loan debt. What don't I have? A JOB!
This is the first strip in a series to chronicle my search for a real Grown-up Job. There will be ups and downs, excitements and disappointments, and hopefully, sooner rather than later, me getting a job!
